OOTN: Comfy Nights Out

A quick outfit post from me today. I wore this last week for work and then to see someone I've been looking forward to seeing for a LONG time...

This skirt is from Primark, but it's actually one I nabbed off Hannah in her blog sale! I love the PU waist band and, best of all, IT HAS POCKETS.

I also popped on some danglies...

Polo neck: Matalan
Skirt: Primark
Earrings: New Look
Boots: Evans

And now for the main man...

Yes! It's Bret "The Hitman" Hart! I've been waiting for this day for months. I received his autobiography for Christmas and couldn't put it down. I'm not going to sit here and pretend it's on the shortlist for The Samuel Johnson Prize, but it's still a pretty gripping read.

Fuzziness

Just thought I should post a little update apologising for the lack of posts recently. I've been suffering with recurring migraines. I think I've been taking my migraine meds for so long that I've become immune! It could also be my contact lens prescription or stress or just it being flipping hereditary. Goodness knows.

I ended up leaving work half way through the day on Monday as my migraine meds were making me want to sleep on the desk! Today and yesterday I've felt so incredibly fuzzy. If you also get migraines you'll probably know that you get so many other side effects, it's not just a bad headache. For me I can get nausea, my vision is impaired, my limbs ache and it feels like everything around me is a little bit blurry.

Anyway what this has resulted in is me sleeping a LOT and wanting to throw my work clothes off and get into snuggly pyjamas as soon as I get home. In other words, my 30 Days 30 Dresses challenge has completely failed. I hope you'll all forgive me!

30 Days 30 Dresses: Day 16, 17 and 18

Day 16:

Wasn't the weather beautiful on Sunday? We spent the day doing odd jobs around the house and garden and popped to the pub for a swift one. Lovely.

Dress: AX Paris Curve
Stirrup leggings: M&S
Canvas flats: New Look
Belt: Primark
Sunglasses: Camden Market

Day 17:

Back to work again. Bleurgh! No, not really. I like my job, but it's such a downer after a 3 day weekend and sun! I had a meeting so tried to look reasonably respectable.

Shirt: Matalan (old)
Pinafore dress: G21
Ankle boots: Evans

Day 18:

Slightly more casual today as I had no meetings on, which meant a return to the dress/cardi/leggings combo (I like to think I'm more productive when I'm comfortable- I think we should all start wearing onesies at work).

Daisy print dress: Simply Be
Boyfriend cardigan: New Look
Boots: Evans
Necklace: Christmas gift from mum (no idea where it's from, but it's flippin' huge).

Check out the other ladies taking part in the challenge:

Marisota Pop Up Shop

WARNING: This post is chocablock full of photos (although that's a bit of a non-warning really).

On Saturday morning I popped into town for a 10am (yes, 10am) appointment with the team at the Marisota Pop Up Shop. Once I'd taken off my jacket and grabbed a cup of coffee, I went straight to the racks of clothes with my Shapeologist for the morning, Lucy.

The Marisota pop up shop was an opportunity for customers to try on a range of their clothing, footwear and accessories. It can be so difficult to judge how something is going to look on you just by looking at a photograph online. Not only that, but as a 28 year old I can't always relate to the models they use on Marisota, so it was great to try on pieces I had previously dismissed.

I went a bit mad and picked up nearly everything....

The first outfit I tried on was this Eyelash Lace Skater dress in hot pink. This looked so much better on me than it did on the hanger! I also loved the way it flared out from the waist. I popped this Mark Heyes Collarless Tailored Jacket over the top to see how easily it could transfer from office to night out.

The next dress I tried on was the Mark Heyes Zip Jersey Dress, which is actually a true red (it doesn't really come across in the photo). Everyone had really good things to say about this dress, but...I just wasn't sure. I tried on a couple of sizes and was never quite happy with how it fit on the arms. Still, I loved the zips on the shoulders, the colour and the draping- just not on me!

Next was this Coleen Nolan Colour Block Illusion Dress. This is a perfect example of a dress I'd previously dismissed. I'd assumed it would be too old for me and a bit frumpy, but when I tried it on I absolutely loved it and it made my waist look tiny! This is a really great dress for work. I have it on with leggings here, but I know I'd wear it with tights in the office.

Now, the below is an absolute revelation to me. It's been YEARS since I've worn trousers to work, and even then they weren't nice trousers. I absolutely love these. They're the MAGISCULPT bootcut trousers and you would never, ever guess they looked like this from the photographs on the website. They're a great length and fit my bum and thighs, but don't gape at the back.

I'm wearing them here with the jacket from before and a leopard print Simply Be cami. I just love this whole outfit for work! Power dressing.

I've saved the best for last now, although this was actually the first dress I tried on. This floral, scuba dress is BEAUTIFUL. I was desperate to buy it, but it's not available yet! It will be on the site in a couple of weeks, at which point I will be buying seven of them so I can wear it EVERY DAY.

I also fell in love with some of the accessories, particularly this statement necklace.

I can't say enough good things about the team at Marisota. They were all wonderful and my Shapeologist, Lucy, was so knowledgeable, helpful and, most importantly, honest! I really hope Marisota end up going the same way as other companies (like Yours) and open actual shops! It would be so great if larger women (and men) could have the same kind of choice on the high street as everyone else.

30 Days, 30 Dresses: Half Way!

Yes we're half way there! Well, to be honest, if I'd actually been successful then I'd be on about Day Three. But I'm still persevering (and props to you for persevering too).

Still, here are a couple of photos...and one of them is a skirt/top combo. I AM A FAILURE.

First up, my Ideal Home Show outfit. I fancied wearing a bit of colour and this bubblegum pink scuba skirt from Primark is an absolute beaut. As you can tell (from the darkness) this is after our return when I'd been attacked by someone determined to turn my eyebrows into evil genius mode.

Necklace: H&M
Top: H&M
Pink scuba skirt: Primark
Floral shoes: New Look (old)

Next up, the outfit I wore to go to the Marisota Pop Up Shop (more on that later)! Again, these were taken on my return and I didn't notice the blurriness at the time (although by that point everything was a bit blurry to me so I probably thought they were fine).

Necklace: River Island
Checked shirt: Tesco/Cherokee
Mesh bodycon: G21
 Boots: Evans

I didn't get an arse shot in this dress, but I have to say it looked absolutely bangin'. I feel excellent every time I wear this and there are some sizes of the red version still available here

Now get over and have a look at some of the ladies who are doing it properly:

30 Days, 30 Dresses: Days 9, 10 and 11

A round up of the past few days. I've found this a lot harder than I thought I would. I do have a lot of dresses, but they're not all appropriate for work (sadly, the place where I spend most of my time) and I tend to come back to trusty favourites a lot. Still, if these are the worst of my problems then I'm doing okay.

Day 9
My trusty old Babs Hulanicki via Asda. I always get compliments when I wear this dress. I wouldn't usually wear leggings and  boots to work, but I didn't have any meetings on so this seemed *just* smart enough.

Day 10
I didn't actually get a photo of myself that day, but it's this Simply Be dress that I've reviewed on the blog before. I'm never really sure how to wear this dress, but for some reason I've taken to wearing it fairly casually despite it being beautiful!

Day 11
Today the sun was shining and so I went to the closet and pulled out the Monsoon dress. I do feel a bit self conscious wearing this much colour, but the shape is nice and I feel confident wearing it. I do have a tendency to wear old lady dresses, but I think I can pull this one off.

30 Days, 30 Dresses: Day Seven and Eight

Before you say it: I know there's no Day Six. I was weak. I wore a top and skirt combo. Let us never speak of it again.

Last night I went to the theatre to watch one of my heroes, Angela Lansbury, perform. It was a lovely warm (ish) evening and I wanted to dress up a little bit, so I went with my new Scarlett & Jo dress:

I feel like the sizing is a bit off on this. I'm actually wearing a 16 here and there's still room to move. Also the sleeves are quite baggy; I wish the mesh part was a bit more fitted. Even so, I loved wearing this and felt great.

Today was a casual day. We took my Grandma out for lunch, dropped her home and walked to the pub, had a couple of pints and then went for a stroll around the park. I just love chilled out Sundays.

This is an old Simply Be dress that's great for chucking on over leggings (like these H&M beauties that I've chub rubbed the crap out of). Oh, and it has pockets! Pockets!

Magnificent 7th: Sport Relief

'We will be posting on the 7th of each month, and the aim of the challenge is to create an outfit to fit the theme, using clothes from our wardrobes, and yes that does mean digging deep into the depths and finding those long lost clothes! Hopefully one of us won’t end up in Narnia, but you never know with a bloggers wardrobe!'

My first post for Magnificent 7th and what is it? Flippin' Sport Relief!

Not that I don't like sport, of course, I played rugby for years and I still love to watch it, but sportswear? No. And, of course, as a larger lady it's pretty difficult to find sportswear. Most of the time it's badly fitting joggers and either crop tops or oversized tshirts.

So enjoy this photo of me playing rugby and I PROMISE next month is going to be much better :)

The 99p Yours Dress Challenge

When Debz from The (Not So) Secret Diary of a Wannabe Princess tweeted about a Yours Clothing promotion where they were offering a choice of 5 different dresses, each for 99p, obviously I was straight there, dress in basket and checked out within 30 seconds.

I chose the polka dot dress because of the length, the sleeves and, er, the polka dots. I've come to realise that I own a lot of polka dot dresses....and now I have one more!

I took these before work- can you tell?! This is my tired face!

For me, the sizing is a bit off. I bought my usual stretchy size- an 18- and I could have sized down to a 14 (!) It is HUGE. I was down to the last hole on the belt and it still wasn't right, so I popped on my Forever21 belt that pulls me in a bit more (and gives me some extra bling). Still, I am pleased with this dress; it's comfy and versatile, perfect for a day out with friends or a day in the office. It's still available here for £32, so I really did get a bargain!

Bloggers have been reviewing the other dresses all week, so do pop over and see how others have styled theirs.

Monday 3rd March - Purple Dress
Tuesday 4th March - Black and White Chiffon Dress
Wednesday 5th March - Black Bodycon Dress
Thursday 6th March - Red and Black Dress
Friday 7th March - Polka Dot Dress

30 Days, 30 Dresses: Day Four

Day four of the challenge and I feel like I'm spamming you! I might start doing three days at a time or a weekly round up instead. However, this dress deserves its own post a) because it's new b) because it was a bargain and c) because I love it.

I'd wanted to try a Scarlett & Jo Powerfit dress after seeing it on so many other bloggers, so when I found this in Evans, Lakeside, the other day and saw it had been reduced to the bargain price of £20 I had to get it. You'll notice I've popped a strappy on underneath as I often do with this sort of neckline at work. The dress has some built in shaping, but, to be honest, I can rarely be bothered wearing massive pants to work; I can live with a few bumps.

I popped on my gold and silver chain that I picked up at Primark. I've been lusting for a gold and silver chain for a while so this has satisfied my craving (for now).

Dress: Evans (Scarlett & Jo)
Chain necklace: Primark
Tights: M&S
Shoes: no idea!

They still have some Powerfit dresses in the online sale here so do have a look if you fancy wearing one and walking around acting like The Boss.

30 Days, 30 Dresses: Day Three

A bit of a boring one today I'm afraid. When I'm teaching I tend to throw on fairly standard work dresses and this, my friends, is standard. It's a peplum dress from Dorothy Perkins that's a bit of an old favourite. It used to have those horrible ties around the waist, but I cut them off pronto! Ain't nobody got time for that.

Peplum Dress: Dorothy Perkins
Shoes: New Look
Necklace: Accessorize
Belt: Primark

Lakeside Meet

On Saturday I had the pleasure of going shopping with three wonderful ladies: Mookie, Abi and Leah

It was so nice to finally put voices to faces! You read someone's blog for so long, you chat through comments and on Twitter and you sort of feel as if you know each other. As soon as I got there it felt like we'd all known each other for years and after the first hour in Primark (yes, I said the FIRST HOUR) I knew it was going to be a good way to spend a Saturday.

I also managed to find my clothes twin in Abi. I swear I loved everything she picked up and I think we went home with pretty much exactly the same jewellery. Bling? Check. Tacky? Check.

We essentially took over the changing rooms at Evans and Yours. I think people thought we were killing someone the amount of screeching and cackling that was coming out of there!

I'll do a more focused post about the shops we visited, but for now I'll just show you a few photos of my Primark jewellery haul (you'll just have to wait for the rest later):

Bling, bling, bling, bling, Dynasty, bling.

30 Days, 30 Dresses: Day Two

Just a quick post about today's dress. It was one I picked up in the ASOS sale and, to be honest, I'm not that keen on the elasticated waist on it. I really should have popped a belt on...oh well, I don't think anyone at work really cares!

These photos were taken after a long day so you'll noticed that I've accessorised this with...my slippers. Don't hate, you wish you had slippers this comfortable!

Dress: ASOS Curve
Slippers: Fat Face

30 Days, 30 Dresses: Day One

When I saw Toni starting this challenge I knew I had to take part. 2014 is the year of save save save and I definitely need to dig deep into the wardrobe and pull out some beautiful dresses that I don't get enough wear out of.

Today was a typical Sunday- pottering about, getting chores done, going out for lunch- so I went for a pretty/practical combo. The dress is an old Dotty Ps (which, by the way, I had to lay on my front and get Mr FD to zip up) and the necklace is a lovely big statement piece from M&S that my mum bought me for Christmas years ago. I love M&S for jewellery!

Dress: Dorothy Perkins
Long sleeved black top: H&M
Leggings: M&S thermals (it was cold!)
Boots: Evans
Necklace: Marks and Spencer
