OOTD: Sunshine Stripes

My OOTD today is an oldie but a goodie. Well, when I say oldie I mean it's not brand new, I bought it last summer. When I tried it on in Matalan I absolutely fell in love with it. If I had one gripe it would be that it was too long for me (I'm 5'5" so pretty average height) and, being the clumsy person I am, I have been known to face plant while wearing it. Still, hooray for tall girls eh?!

This dress always makes me feel a bit glam although I'm usually wearing it with flip flops (extra bling on this time though). Not really sure what happened to my neck/waist in the second photo- I promise they exist!

Dress: Papaya (Matalan)
Cardi: Dotty Ps

Shop your Stash

"This is all about finding a gem in what you already own. This is to let go a little of the stress that comes with being a blogger - even if it is just once a month. Rummage through your beauty products and climb through those clothes draws. You might surprise yourself!"

This month we're thinking about summer and, for me, that means I want to keep my hair out of my face lest I end up like a big sweaty monster.

I never ever EVER tie my hair back. Ever. Once, when I was about 6, I went to school with my hair in a ponytail and I was very excited. When I got in, I was a little bit late, so I ran to my desk and sat down. At this point the teacher came over to my desk, screamed in my face for being late and sent me outside. I stood in the corridor, cried and ripped out my ponytail. That, my friends, was the end of that.

I'm not ready to attempt the ponytail again, but I have been trying out new things, particularly with hair bands:

This first one is from the lovely Alice Vitrium. At only £3.50 this was a real bargain and one I can see getting lots of wear in the summer.

Next up is my little bow hair band from New Look. It's so pretty, but I'm not really getting much wear out of it, possibly because I feel like a child when I've got it on?!

Last, but certainly not least, I received this beautiful cockatiel brooch/hair clip for Christmas, which I wore to a birthday a few months ago. I love love love this! It's not the sort of thing you can wear every day, but I might just give it a go.

So yes, fuck you, Mrs Potts!

Simply Be Bomber Jacket*

A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to be invited to a dinner celebrating the launch of a collection by Simply Be and Look Magazine. While I was there I was allowed to choose my favourite piece and, I have to say, it was hard! Still, it didn't take me long to pick out this beautiful bomber jacket. I'm embracing the nineties trend like it ain't nothing but a thing. Someone stick some Neneh Cherry on!

I decided to pair it with my new jumpsuit from Matalan which I'll review in another post (or, you know, just wear in every other post for the rest of my life because oh my god it's so beautiful), some heels and a bit of bling in the form of cheap, eBay tat. Gotta love a necklace that'll turn your neck green!

StyleXL Giveaway

Hi everyone,

It looks like August is going to be quite a busy time for plus size events. As someone quite new to the scene I haven't been to many, but the ones I have been to have been so welcoming and friendly, which is great because it can be quite daunting going to an event by yourself.

Anyway, one of these events is StyleXL, in Leicester on Saturday 2nd August 2014, organised by Leah. There will be a catwalk of clothing dedicated to plus size fashion and also an opportunity to actually buy clothing from the brands at their marketplace. Sound good? Well, it gets better because...I'll be modelling! (small scream of panic) Well, in for a penny in for a pound eh?!

What this means is that I have a ticket to StyleXL to give away and I'd love to give it to one of you. You can enter via the Rafflecopter below and I'll be running this competition for a whole month so there's plenty of time to get your entries in.

Good luck!

Magnificent 7th: Your Favourite Accessory

I love a good accessory, but that wasn't always the case. In fact, I didn't even have my ears pierced until I was 28! Now, you can't get me out of a statement necklace and, as someone who is forever dressed as The Woman in Black at work, colourful accessories can really make an outfit.

This is one of my favourite necklaces, bought for me by my mum many many years ago. It's from Marks & Spencer who I really love for accessories; they have some great pieces at the moment!

Bank Holiday Catwalk

Ahh bank holidays; aren't they lovely? Actually I have been very jammy indeed and have been off work since Wednesday! Mr FD and I went up to the Highlands to see his parents and made a long weekend out of it. It's beautiful out there, but I am DEFINITELY a city girl. I was a bit anxious every time I couldn't get any phone signal...

Anyway, I might have walked up a few hills, but that didn't stop me wearing impractical clothing, ohhhh no.

Friday was a day for coffee, cake and spectacular views. We popped up to the Cairgorms and went on the funicular railway, which was excellent (I love a good monorail).

Sitting in a tree (as you do)
You can't see my outfit too well, but I just played it safe in a black dress/top and plimsolls. I stuck out a bit with everyone else in their walking trousers, but...waterproof trousers? Vom fest.

Saturday we went to a distillery museum, which I thought was going to be rubbish, but I ended up really enjoying! I didn't drink my dram at the end though (it hasn't persuaded me to start drinking whisky). Of course I went in a daisy dress/purple tights combo just in case anyone was under the mistaken impression that I was up for walking later.

Sunday we were travelling home so I went for my comfy new denim dress from Simply Be which I am LOVING by the way. I popped my tartan shirt over the top instead of a cardi. I also wore my hair up which is UNHEARD OF.
